On small 16" wheeled bikes, a short cage derailleur is required so it would not hit the pavement as the distance between the rear axle and ground is very close. Without the smaller cogs and shorter derailleur unique to the Capreo group, it is impossible to achive the almost 300% gear range spread we have on the Mini. By using a cassette system, you keep the simplicity of the drivetrain. The bike can be serviced by any technician around the world. Unlike the bolt on geared hubs on most 16" folders, the mini also has quick release wheels which allows for faster wheel removal when changing a flat or packing into a suitcase.

The bike is well suited for urban city riding. With the smaller wheels, the bike (especially when folded) is a lot smaller than its 20" wheeled counterparts. It is small enough to put into a grocery shopping cart with more room on the cart for grocery supplies. If compactness is at a premium, the Downtube mini is your ticket.
