Schlogen to Linz
We had a 4 star breakfast buffet to fuel us for todays 40+ km ride.  Weather was perfect, sunny but not hot.

Todays first segment of the ride is one of the prettiest stretches of the route. From Schlogen, we stay on the right bank. It's a very serene setting, with the mountains on the left reflecting on the calm water surface The S bend on the river slows the river down to a stand still. On your right, you have a wooded hillside, sheltering you from the heat with birds serenading you with their chirping.

We start playing tag with cyclists travelling at similar speed. We'd catch up when they take breaks and vice versa. With no knowledge of the German language, we greeted each other by waving.

There are a lot of small resort towns on this route. You pass by a lot of campgrounds populated by motorhomes and tents. It's a good stretch to take your time and enjoy what the Danube has to offer.

left: don't just ride - stop to enjoy the scenery

below: ferries ply the Danube and stop at most major towns. This stop is at Aschach.

At the stroke of 12:00 PM, we were entering the town of Aschach. But merchants were all closing up for their afternoon break. We were lucky that we packed some extras from the morning buffet. Todays lesson, Austrians take afternoon breaks.

Ferries ply the Danube and stop at most major towns. So in case of foul weather or you just get tired - there's always a plan B.
