| All this time, we are still riding on German soil. A few kilometers before hitting our final destination, we cross an unassuming, unguarded border crossing. I was expecting a border guarded by armed guards who would inspect and stamp our passports. Instead, it's a one lane road with only a signpost welcoming us into Austria. Before 4:00 PM, we were paying our 2 Euro ferry fee to cross the Danube into Schlogen. The toll collector tells us that in the summer, they ferry over a thousand cyclists a day. That's a lot of cyclists ! We always travel in the off season to avoid such crowds and higher prices. |

| There are 2 lodging choices in Schlogen. There is a pension at 28 Euros a person and the 4 star Hotel Donauschlinge at 37 Euros a person with buffet breakfast. We decided to splurge a bit. One thing good with the prices they quote is that it is inclusive of all taxes and any other fees. You get billed for 37 Euros, no more no less. The same is true for everything. I think their system makes more sense than ours. |

| If you still have enough energy, hiking 30 minutes up the vista point is worthwhile. The Danube takes an unusual S turn. From the outlook you will have a clear view of how the river reverses direction 2 times.
Todays 30+ km ride is a good first cycling day for those of us who have not been on a bike for months. No major mishaps even on a Friday the 13th. Tomorrows ride will be longer, but that's still tomorrow. Tonight we indulge on beer and German cuisine. |
