Rained out - Back to Vienna
We wake up to the sound of rain. Finally our luck has run out. With rain in the forecast for the next 2 to 3 days, we decide to train back to Vienna. There was no sense riding in the rain. With 5 days of glorious riding days, we can't really complain. When touring, your outlook should be positive - "the glass is always half full". Anyway, there's always Vienna to explore on bike.

With the train station only a few blocks away, we check out of our hotel at the last minute. During rainy days like today, the train system adjusts their schedules and rules. Our train was a commuter train with no bike racks. To accommodate rained out cyclists like us, they allow bikes on all cars and on all runs. Bikes were piled up on train entrances. We had to arrange our bikes like sardines as more cyclists were boarding from other towns.

The train ride to Vienna was just slightly over an hour from Krems. The train station we got off was still a few kilometers away from the pension. With the rain still pouring, we had to ride on wet pavement. Vienna's bike path just makes riding a lot safer even in the rain. Luckily, we were able to find rooms.

We celebrated our last day of riding with a group dinner at a local German restaurant with beer and the local cuisine. Even though the trip was cut short, it was still a success. Five sunny days of riding with no mishap is more than we can ask for. Maybe we can come back someday to finish the ride.
